I used this today at work and it works great! I plugged it up 1 hour and 30 minutes before lunch and it was quite warm! My food had garlic and onions in it and there was no smell when heating up. The insert is made of metal and the lid is some sort of plastic. I kept the insert lid on while heating and kept the outer lid on also. I love that I can keep the insert separate in my lunch bag with an ice pack then take it out to heat it up for lunch. No need for nasty work microwaves anymore!
I had more food in the crockpot before the picture but I ate most of it before I decided to take a pic. It was delicious! My only wish is that the cord to plug in was a little bit longer.

In order for the food to be warm you just need to warm it up around 30-45 mins before you plan to eat your lunch. The types of food he warms up varies from potatoes to brocolli to grill chicken.
